I am a narrative artist working in sculpture and printmaking. I foster an innate urge to anthropomorphise in the same way that fables use metaphor to reveal our humanness and reflect on our relationships. I look for a sense of movement and anticipation, narratively and visually.
I specialise in linoleum and woodcut printmaking; I enjoy the demands of the process. Each block is cut by hand, with the consistency of the material influencing the manner of carving. Each print is pressed and burnished by hand, and individually illuminated with gilded details.
In this recent collection of zoographical studies, I have drawn all my subjects from life, both wild in the landscape surrounding my studio in the Wylye Valley, as well as domesticated livestock and animals bred in captivity. Each image is a distillation of many observations and sketches to create the character and integrity of the final portrait.
