SUNIL PATEL

Sunil Patel refers to his work as a pilgrimage. Indeed, his paintings are grouped into series which often take years to complete and have a shared narrative based on Sunil's personal interpretations of Hindu scripture and of the myths which arise out of the collective unconscious.

Born in Nairobi, Sunil remains influenced by Indian techniques of painting, specifically the Miniaturist tradition. He studied at the Slade School of Art and has been producing his small intricately worked canvases since leaving the college in 1986, following a period of experimentation with large-scale installation.
